Environmental

These days almost every company has a section headed ‘Environmental Policy’ but what does it mean? In our case, unusually, two of us have spent a total of greater than 35 years of our previous professional lives working in environmental laboratories which we think is evidence enough of our commitment to caring for the environment. If, as we do, you love nature and the great outdoors then we assume you also would not want to damage it.

Our aim is to minimise, or where possible, eliminate any adverse environmental effects created by this business. Part of the decision to operate web-based trading was with this in mind, for example, no catalogues, minimum paper production and you do not have to travel in your cars to buy your outdoor clothing. We use re-cycled paper for our labels and where the items come pre-packed from our suppliers we are encouraging them to do the same.

To avoid freight miles we have purposely chosen suppliers who on a world scale are geographically close, from England, Scotland and Scandinavia.

We are not quite there yet but this year our aim is to begin automatically setting aside a portion of the postage costs and using this money to off-set the carbon released from shipping the goods to you. You may have seen some criticism of carbon off-setting, some of which is valid, but in our case we want to carefully choose a reputable off-setting scheme which invests in green technologies. Our aim is to provide an update on an annual basis of the carbon off-setting projects that we have invested in.

If a particular off-setting scheme has caught your eye, or if you know of a supplier of recycled outer packaging which we want to use but have been unable to locate, then do contact us at [email protected]  We would love to hear from you!
